New laws proposed by the Victorian Liberals and Nationals to chase down every cent rorted through Labor’s $15 billion CFMEU corruption scandal have successfully passed the Legislative Council.
The passing of the laws is a historic first step in this Parliament changing the law in the wake of the biggest corruption scandal in our state’s history.
These laws would provide Victoria’s chief anti-corruption agency with ‘following-the-money’ powers, allowing for the proper investigation of rorted public funds on major projects by third parties.
It also increases transparency by better enabling the agency to conduct public hearings, whilst still ensuring that hearings can be held in private where appropriate.
The Bill will now move to the Legislative Assembly, where Premier Allan and Labor MPs now face a simple choice.
Will they vote with the Liberals and Nationals to get $15 billion of rorted taxpayer money back or will they continue the cover-up of the largest corruption scandal in Victoria’s history?
