With the City of Port Phillip proposing to build a new public toilet block near to the entrance of St Kilda Park Primary School, local families and students deserve to have their voices heard.
Following concern about ongoing safety issues in St Kilda, including reports of drug use and violence in public facilities, the school, along with local small businesses and the broader community have called on the City of Port Phillip to scrap the proposed toilet block site.
If approved, the building would require the approval of Parks Victoria and the Andrews Government, with the community urging the State Government to overrule the build.
Shadow Minister for the Environment, James Newbury, said common sense was needed.
“I am calling on the Minister for the Environment and the Andrews Government to publicly rule out allowing the public toilet to be built near the entrance of St Kilda Park Primary School,” Mr Newbury said.
“The school and broader community deserve to have their concerns about community safety heard, and the Andrews Government should use their power immediately to overrule the proposal by the City of Port Phillip.”
