Statement from the Shadow Attorney-General
James Newbury, Shadow Attorney-General
Friday 27 February 2026
On Thursday 19 February, the Member for Carrum and Attorney-General, stated in Parliament, during Question Time, that an allegation of CFMEU misconduct put to her, had been referred to:
One. “The Agency”
Two. “The Responsible Authority”
Three. “Victoria Police”
However, the Attorney-General has now admitted that when an allegation of CFMEU misconduct was reported to her, she simply passed on the information to a government relations adviser from the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority.
Contrary to what she told Parliament, the Attorney-General did not report the matter to either an agency or Victoria Police.
It should be noted that the Premier has set an expectation that, in her government, any instance of misconduct must be reported to Victoria Police.
A Member must not deliberately mislead Parliament or the public about matters related to their official duties, under the Members of Parliament (Standards) Act 1978.
Deliberately misleading Parliament is considered a serious breach, and there are formal processes in place to deal with it.
