Rubbish in The Elster Creek Canal
DO YOU WANT TO STOP THE RUBBISH IN THE ELSTER CREEK CANAL?
The Elster Creek Canal and Catchment runs like an artery through the inner South-East areas of Elwood, City of Port Phillip, City of Glen Eira, Bayside and Kingston. It deserves to be better protected from plastic litter and toxins.
Over recent years, we have seen works begin in Elwood to help mitigate against flooding with the Yalukit Willam wetlands.
What we need is a focused effort on protecting the Canal and Port Phillip Bay now and into the future.
The once vibrant Elster Creek Canal, Catchment area and Port Phillip Bay, deserves an immediate remedy to the growing volume of plastic and polystyrene litter causing harm to wildlife and humans, and we petition the State Government, in partnership with surrounding Councils, Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria, Environment Protection Authority, interested groups, and the community, to fund solutions to eliminate rubbish (that should include Gross Pollutant Traps used on some but not all drains in Port Phillip and surrounding councils and dredging of the Canal to remove toxic waste).
As part of the State Government taking a leadership role, we also call on the relevant Minister to personally meet with interested parties and receive a copy of the completed petition.
SIGN THE PETITION BELOW IF YOU WANT TO ELIMINATE RUBBISH IN ELSTER CREEK CANAL AND PORT PHILLIP BAY.
