Demolition of 47 Dickens Street

ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT THE HISTORIC BUILDING AT 47 DICKENS STREET BEING DEMOLISHED?
The Art Deco building at 47 Dickens Street, in Elwood, is historic. The unique building not only holds architectural worth but is also an important for our cultural identity.
Port Phillip Council previously opposed demolition of the building and sought approval from the State Labor Government to extend interim Heritage Overlay across the site.
Last month, Port Phillip Council advised residents that the building “will be demolished in the very near future as approval has been granted by Council”.
Residents were alarmed to learn of the demolition and have broader concerns about the lack of heritage protections for historic buildings.
