Mr NEWBURY (Brighton) (12:54):
This year will mark the centenary of the death of Orlando Street commercial bank teller William Charles Almeida.
The 22-year-old was killed by two of Squizzy Taylor’s gang when they robbed the bank.
Despite being shot, William held one of the robbers, Francis Perkins.
The other, Douglas Robertson, was later arrested in Sydney.
A publicly erected water fountain commemorates Almeida in Triangle Gardens in Hampton.
