Jacinta Allan’s legislative agenda is in chaos on the eve of the final sitting week of the Victorian Parliament this year.
The Allan Government has withdrawn its two SEC bills, the State Electricity Commission Amendment Bill 2023 and Constitution Amendment (State Electricity Commission) Bill 2023.
Labor has also shelved its State Taxation Bill and its WorkCover legislation is likely to be delayed because of flaws in the Bill.
Shadow Minister for the SEC, David Davis, said: “The SEC is the Allan Government’s signature policy and its withdrawal will break Labor’s election promise to enshrine it in the constitution this year.
“Since the Allan Government announced the return of the much-hyped SEC, electricity prices have surged by 25 per cent for Victorian households and businesses.”
Manager of Opposition Business, James Newbury, said: “Clearly the Premier’s legislative agenda is in tatters as we head into the final sitting week of Parliament tomorrow.
“These are the latest in a series of broken election promises by Labor and cap off of a year in which the Allan Government has failed Victorians through its gross financial mismanagement.”
