CONSTITUENCY QUESTION

‘HAEMOPHILIA FOUNDATION FUNDING’.

My question is to the Premier, and I ask: when will the State Government restore the $240,000 in funding cut by Labor from the Haemophilia Foundation Victoria?

Labor’s cut has forced the foundation to shut its doors.

For background, haemophilia is an inherited genetic disorder that stops blood from clotting. An estimated 1647 Victorians live with bleeding disorders.

The Haemophilia Foundation has helped to ensure people living with haemophilia receive essential education, advocacy, peer support and connections to specialised care.

Brighton resident Naomi Denton has experienced firsthand how vital the Foundation’s services are. Her young son was diagnosed with severe haemophilia immediately after birth.

Since then, the family has leant on the foundation and the broader haemophilia community for information, support and connection with other families.

For families like the Denton family, haemophilia requires constant vigilance and careful management, particularly with children.

As Naomi said to me, the cut means she and her family will lose essential elements of the support system they depend on.
