Statement - Backing the voice of Joy

Statement – Backing the voice of Joy

2 July 2022.

A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit $250,000 a year, over the next four years, to the community radio station Joy 94.9.

Joy burst onto the airwaves, as a community radio station in 1993. Since then it has cemented itself as the leading LGBTIQ+ radio station.

But the station is not only a community leader, it plays a critical role in health and mental health messaging.

The funding commitment acknowledges the role of Joy in the community and will deliver funding certainty now and into the future.

Shadow Minister for Equality, James Newbury, said that Joy is the voice of the rainbow community and deserves to be protected.

“The Liberals’ commitment will deliver the station funding certainty now and into the future.”
