Joint Statement – Supporting the future of Brighton Secondary College

7 November 2022.
A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit over $5 million towards Brighton Secondary College’s plan for the future. The commitment will fund the first step in their vision to upgrade the College.
The College is a significant secondary school in the region, that has always had to fight to receive their fair share of capital works funding from the Labor Government. The commitment will allow the school to take the first major step by building a new international student learning hub so that the school can continue to be a leading educator in this space.
Brighton Secondary College has also developed a masterplan for a 1400-seat tiered theatre with a stage, curtains, lighting, theatre-style acoustics, audio-visual facilities, music tutorial rooms with equipment and storage facilities to support it, accompanying infrastructure, a foyer area and kitchen facilities.
The theatre would also include a modern performing arts space as the current hall is over sixty years old and there is no modern performing arts space in the community.
Finally, the full vision also includes the development of a wellness centre, which would service the wellbeing of both international and local students.
In government, the Liberals and Nationals will also look at the current decades old demoutables that Year Ten students are housed in.
Member for Brighton, James Newbury, said Brighton Secondary College’s plan for the school is visionary and the Liberal Party will invest in that future. Under a Liberal Government, the College’s dream will become a reality.
“This funding commitment from a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will enable students for many years to come to have access to leading facilities in our region.”
Liberal Candidate for Bentleigh, Debbie Taylor-Haynes, said this commitment gives students and teachers access to the facilities they deserve.
“This upgrade under a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government is a serious boost for Brighton Secondary College and is a real solution in supporting the school community.”
