Joint Statement – Childcare outcome a win for locals

The Liberals and Nationals welcome the City of Port Philip’s decision not sell three community-run childcare centres.

This decision is an acknowledgement of the overwhelming opposition to sale in the local community. The three centres and their families can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

It comes shortly after David Southwick and James Newbury announced that a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government would contribute $5 million to keep the centres open.

The commitment forms part of the Liberals and Nationals’ plan for better childcare, which includes making three and four-year-old kindergarten free – saving Victorian families up to $2500 per year.

Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and Member for Caulfield, David Southwick, said affordable local childcare is essential for the wellbeing of parents and children alike.0

“This is a win for our local kids and their families. Be it here in the City of Port Phillip, or across Victoria, I want all people to have access to only the very best early childhood services.”

“This commitment from the Liberals and Nationals gives locals just that.”

Member for Brighton, James Newbury, highlighted the importance of community consultation and grassroots action.

“Residents spoke, and their voices have been heard.”

“The decisive action the Liberals and Nationals took has been an important part of the City of Port Phillip’s decision and we look forward to supporting the centres into the future.”
